Bobcat women pull away from Orediggers

BOZEMAN — Delany Junkermier scored 20 points to lead three Montana State players in double figures Wednesday night, and the Bobcats beat the Montana Tech women’s basketball team 86-64. (Stats)

The exhibition game was the season opener for the defending Big Sky Conference champion Bobcats. It doesn’t count in the standings.

Tori Martell scored 15 points in the win, while Blaire Braxton contributed with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

MSU jumped out to a 23-11 lead after the first quarter, but the Orediggers battled back to pull within 26-24 at halftime.

The Bobcats broke the game open by outpacing Tech 27-10 in the third quarter.

Sammy McGree came off the bench to score a game-high 19 points to lead the Orediggers. Kourtney Coverdell scored 15 points for Tech, which saw eight players find the scorebook.

Shay Potter, who pulled down eight rebounds, scored seven points, while Hanna Sparks and Kaylee Zard each scored six points.

Sparks also dished out five assists.

The Orediggers are back at home Friday and Saturday when they participate in the inaugural Tip Off Tournament at the HPER Complex.
