CORVALLIS — The first day of the Western A Divisional track meet saw Butte Central senior Rachael McGree finish with a gold and a silver medal. (Results)
McGree, who has been battling back from a broken foot all season, won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.6 seconds. She also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 2 inches.
Those are two of the three events in which McGree, a future Montana State Bobcat, is the defending Class A state champion. She also won the triple jump at state last year.
Lindsay McGree placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 15-10. That equals the state qualifying mark, though the top 10 in each event move on to next week’s Class A State meet in Laurel.
Butte Central’s relay team placed seventh. Rachael McGree, Abby McGee, Olivia Bolton and Lindsay McGree each ran a leg.
On the boys’ side, Butte Central saw three freshmen qualify for state.
Cutter Thatcher placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 20-0. Aaron Richards took eighth in the shot put in 45-4, and Matt Simkins placed 10th in long jump in 19- 1 and 1/2.
The Maroon boys ran to fourth place in the 400 relay. Blake Burton, Simkins, Nate McGree and Clay Fisher each ran a leg in that race.
The meet concludes on Saturday.
