With the courts still surrounded by snow, the first day of the Southwestern A Divisional tennis tournament went off without a hitch Thursday at three locations around the Mining City.
The day saw a pair of Butte Central doubles teams advance to the semifinals heading into Friday’s action, which begins at 9 a.m. (Brackets)
BC’s Cameron Johnson and Guido Ossello advanced to the semifinals on the boys’ doubles bracket, advancing with a bye and a straight-sets victory. Maroons Tricia Joyce and Emily St. John did the same in girls’ doubles.
Shane Callahan and Colby Kline are still fighting in the consolation bracket. The BC duo won their opener, fell in the quarterfinals and won a consolation match.

Sam Johnston and Aidan Petritz of BC bowed out with two losses.
BC’s boys’ singles players — Hunter Hartwick, Tash Lester, Noah McGee and Logan Harrington — all went 0-2 to end their season.
All three Central girls’ doubles teams still playing. Shea Davis and Prestynn Weldon won a match before falling in the quarterfinals. They will play on the consolation side of the bracket on Friday.
Tess Riordan and Sophie Sullivan followed the same path with a win and a loss.
Maroons Savannah Healy and Zoe Sullivan will meet in a loser-out match on Friday. Healy battled back from a first-round loss with a consolation win, while Sullivan won and fell in the quarterfinals.
Samantha Burton of BC is also still playing. She bounced back from an opening-round loss with a straight-sets victory.
Boys’ singles play was held at the West Elementary courts Thursday, while boys’ doubles took place at Father Sheehan Park. All the girls’ action took place at Stodden Park.
On Friday, the girls will play at Stodden again, while all boys’ matches will be played at Father Sheehan.
