Badovinac, Foley win state doubles handball title

BILLINGS — Butte handball players Brett Badovinac and Don Foley claimed the title in the Open Division of the 2018 Montana State Doubles Handball Tournament last weekend at the Billings YMCA.

The Butte duo won by virtue of a tiebreaker in the tournament that used a round-robin format. They finished with a 3-1 record, tying with the team of Missoula’s Sean Sandau and Emigrant’s Les Seago and the team of Livingston’s Rick Edwards and Bozeman’s Steve Birrell. The tiebreaker came down to most games won, with Badovinac and Foley winning seven games compared to six for the other two teams.

Jay Spooner and Dan Passolt of Fargo, North Dakota, took home two titles, winning both the Golden Masters (50 plus) and the Super Golden Masters (60 plus). Dan Scilley of Luther and Butte native Monk Semansky of Highwood won the Diamond Masters (70 plus).
